A 17-year-old girl due to sit the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) has not returned home since Monday under mysterious circumstances and her mother is pleading for the public’s help in locating her.
Teshia Adams, 17, a student of the Tucville Secondary School, left her aunt’s home for school but never returned.
The girl’s mother, Melissa Beckles, said that she was overseas so she left Teshia in her sister’s care at Phoenix Park, West Bank Demerara.
On Tuesday, the aunt received a text from the girl’s phone saying she was pregnant and would not return until her mother returns to Guyana.
The aunt texted her back asking her to return home and to let them work things out.
The next day, the aunt received another text from the girl saying that she was willing to come home but wasn’t being allowed to. She spoke of a “boy” and not knowing he was on drugs.
The aunt has since been receiving strange text messages, including one that says she’s “playing Miss Powerful.”
The child’s mother believes the texts are not from her daughter but from someone holding her against her will.
The mother returned to the country on Thursday and tried calling her daughter’s phone, but it rings for about three times and then is disconnected or it rings until it goes to voice mail.
The matter has been reported to the Vreed-en-hoop Police station.
The girl’s mother is asking anyone knowing the whereabouts of her daughter to contact the nearest Police station or telephone numbers 698-6286, 664-5481, or 621-4235.
