Teekaram was struck in the right eye and is currently a patient in the Intensive Care Unit at Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
According to Teekaram’s sister, Davita Talmakund, her brother informed her that he was robbed of approximately $700,000 in cash, a silver chain, cellular phones, jewellery and ipods.
Reports are that Teekaram was aroused by noise in his home and upon checking, was confronted by the perpetrators who held him at gunpoint and demanded cash and jewellery.
The men also held up Rajendra Teekaram and severely beat him after which they ransacked the house and took away the cash and articles then escaped.
Talmakund said that her brother is an easy going individual who at all time tries to avoid problem.
“He does work bus on the road for his living and he does also get money from overseas relatives. He don’t trouble nobody. Them could have take the money and go. I don’t know why them shoot he,” said Talmakund.
But the police said that the man was not shot. No one heard any gunshot and although there was a lot of blood there was no evidence of a shooting.
The police reported that the two victims were beaten about their bodies with the firearms by the armed men.
Balram Teekaram and Rajendra Teekaram were taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital for medical treatment where Balram Teekaram was admitted a patient while Rajendra Teekaram was treated and sent away.
Teekaram was eventually transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
