A fine all round performance by Vinhood Karran guided ECI to victory last Sunday at the National Park over Farnum’s XI in a tapeball 20/20 contest.
A day after being outclassed by the powerful Bravados XI, ECI’s gentlemen were keen to amend their loss. They won the toss and decided to strike first on the flat tarmac surface at the National Park in glorious sunshine.
The Farnum boys made an early break through before a determined and timely 90 run partnership between Karran and skipper Phillip Jaiserrisingh in twelve overs that laid the foundation for a defendable score. Right handers Karran and Jaiserrisingh made 34 and 42 respectively to help ECI to 174 for 8. Brian Sukhai (18) and Abdool Raheem (16) made valuable contributions later down the order.
Bowling for Farnum, fast bowler Matthew Mark and Dexter Bowen grabbed three and two wickets respectively.
Farnum’s turn to bat and under pressure to score almost nine runs per over, the batmen counter attacked after losing a couple of early wickets to tall fast bowlers Rawle Munroe (3 wickets) and Sukhai (2 wickets).
Jason Grimmond (38) and Vickram Sukram (14) batted positively as they galloped to 35 off 5 overs. The introduction of Karran slowed Farnum’s progress as he used his magic and variety of slow balls to out fox the Farnum boys to pick up three vital wickets from his quota of 4 overs. They were eventually bowled out for 119 as part timer Seon Bovell grabbed two wickets. No other batsman remitted any other significant score.
Karran was later named Man of the Match for his fine all round performance.
