With its recent success in staging their 20/20 competition, which was won by the Guyana Fire Service, the Central Police Station Outreach and Community Enhancement Programme under the leadership of Station Sergeant, Jairam Ramlakhan, continues today with the staging of a day of sports at the Central Police Station Recreational Hall and the Central Police Station Out door Recreational Centre, both situated in the compound of the Central police Station.
A number of indoor and outdoor games will be played including games such as Whist, Domino, Table Tennis, Football, cricket and a boxing exhibition. Teams are expected to come from the Central Police Station, Felix Austin B division Police Training, Guyana Defence Force and civilians. Both males and females are expected to be a part of the day’s activities.
Recently the Central Police Operational Police Youth Club launched their female cricket team at the Central Police station Recreational Centre. The team which is made up of a combination of Female police officers, Neighborhood police, Special Constables, Rural Constables and some members of the Community Police groups and also members of the Police Operational Youth Clubs in the area are also expected to be in action.
According to Sergeant Jairam Ramlakhan, the activity other games and community activities are all part of the force’s way in doing things differently. It helps to keep youths out of trouble and be actively involved in constructive activities.
“It is a new way of policing especially with the scourge of illicit activities that abound.” “We have to learn to battle the problems front on,” the wily policeman said. By involving the different arms of the joint services and the Para military organizations and the community in a dynamic mix, arguers well for the future.
The Central Police operational Youth Club had a successful year in 2010 and looks forward for a better year in 2011.
