Although geography has indefinitely placed some distance between him and his new acquaintances— those kind hearted Essequibians were able to wedge that gap, by remembering Edon Williams on his sixth birth anniversary.
The child was born on March 30. On the occasion he was showered with a monetary donation, to commenced saving into his account and a hamper by the New York-based Guyana Essequibo Association of America.
The overseas-based, non-governmental group is headed by Inderjeet Paul who said that he was alerted to Edon’s story which appeared in the newspapers some time back.
He said that the organisation’s primarily focus entails the participation of social activities, such as performing dances and hosting dinners to raise money which would be subsequently fund gifts for the needy. The organisation presented Edon with a much appreciated birthday present.
“Our organisation reaches out to the most vulnerable, through thick and thin, to tackle their existing challenges,” Paul said. Indrawattie Natram, made the donation to Edon, the little lad who was seen writing his name with a pen tucked between shoulder and cheek during a visit to his Charity residence where he stayed with his care taker, Pastor Oprah Singh.
Pastor Singh offered their gratitude to the non-Governmental organization.
Six-year-old Edon Williams, at birth, was born, without arms and legs, on March 30, 2005, to Coleen and Terry Williams, at Barima, in the North West District.
Despite, being unable to attend regular school, like his peers, because of an unusual medically disease, termed bilateral transverse Terminal Hemimelia, and as a result was born without limbs.
Pastor Oprah Singh confirmed the child’s willingness to learn, and is providing home tutoring, via home videos.
The hyperactive child, she said, would however display a disinterest in wanting to be taught at times. Yet, despite his mood swings, Pastor Singh who met little Edon while on a visit to Barima almost five years ago, said that she continues to be patient, while displaying a positive attitude towards the disabled child.
Singh, who pastors the Wesleyan church in Charity, said that Edon needs prosthetic limbs.
Prosthetic legs and arms would help him accomplish even more, both personally and academically, Singh commented. But while Edon is awaiting a positive outcome in his situation, a foreign missionary has expressed interest in his adoption.
“I am awaiting her arrival in Guyana and based on the progress, I would know the outcome. I cannot do anything until the missionary commenced the adoption procedure.”
Edon, who attends the Wesleyan Church, in Charity, is gifted in both the recitation of prayers and the singing of inspirational songs.
