Yesterday, Tyrone Rowe called ‘Cobra’ was in court for the continuation of the robbery under arms and damage to property cases before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell. He was not required to plead.
Sergeant Neville Jeffers is heading the prosecution which is alleging that on May 16, last year, Rowe while armed with a gun robbed, Mark Hunte of $580,000 worth of gold jewelry. The incident took placed at Tucville Squatting Area, Georgetown.
At the commencement of the trial yesterday, Hunte was led by the prosecution in his evidence in chief.
The accused who was unrepresented cross-examined the witness. In an earlier hearing Jeffers indicated to the court that the prosecution was prepared to call seven witnesses to testify during the trial.
The accused was also charged for damaging the identification parade (ID) glass on September 4, 2010.
At the time he formed part of an identification parade. Based on police reports the (ID) glass was worth $1.4 million. To the charge Rowe pleaded not guilty. Again he was unrepresented.
Policeman Chetram Seeram, who is stationed at the Brickdam Police Station and attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took to the witness stand and related the role he played in the damage to property allegation.
Another witness, Sergeant Erick Bharrat, was also called by the prosecution. The Sergeant is employed by the Guyana Police Force in the construction section. The accused cross-examined both witnesses. The two matters will be heard again on April 15. The offence of robbery under arms was withdrawn against Rowe, but he was recharged jointly with Anand Lallchand, of 29 Howes Street, Charlestown, Georgetown and Dwayne Critchlow, of 54 Vigilance, East Coast Demerara for the same offence.
Rowe, who was unrepresented, was not required to plead, since the offence is indictable.

When he resurfaced, Rowe made contact with media personalities and surrendered himself to the lawful authority. On his first court appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, Rowe was slapped with numerous charges ranging from murder to robbery underarms to damage of property. For some of the charges even though they were bailable, the court did not allow the accused bail. Hence he is on remand pending the outcome of the trials for the offences which were instituted against him.
