The top professional football club from Trinidad and Tobago, Defence Force will touch down this morning at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, for their clash with Milerock football club of Linden on Sunday in the Caribbean Football Union’s Club championship set for the Mackenzie Sports Club ground. Yesterday, plans were being made for the successful hosting of the first round tie between Trinidad and Tobago’s Pro League champions Defence Force and Guyana’s Milerock in Linden on Sunday evening in the second round play of the Caribbean Football Union’s Club championship.
The home and away tie means that Milerock will play hosts of the top Trinidad and Tobago club, where according to Milerock FC president Bryan Joseph, “The hosting would actually be done by the Guyana Defence Force in terms of providing meals and accommodation for the TT Defence Force team and transportation to some extent, and we are just responsible for moving them from to and from the game.”
Looking ahead on how things are going Joseph said, “We’ve pretty much got all the bases covered, in terms of the hosting…also all arrangements are in place for the match officials.”
However the Milerock boss cautioned yesterday: “For the event itself, we are still to get something confirming from Banks DIH as to exactly what they are going to do as well as from the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T), but we are putting systems in place to ensure the event comes on Sunday.”
Joseph said the Trinidadians are expected to be here at 9.00 am today and they will depart on Monday morning after they have completed their engagement.
Asked about the Army side coming to Linden before the match Joseph announced that, “…there is no arrangement in place for them to come prior to the match, the Defence Force is going to provide a venue for them to have their training sessions, so there is really no need to bring them to Linden before the day of the game.”
The TT Pro League champions qualified for the second round after a 3-0 victory over Bermuda’s Dandy Town Hornets.
They TT Defence Force advanced 4-1 on aggregate after the teams played out a 1-1 draw in Bermuda.
Milerock moved through after losing their first game at home 1-0 against Suriname’s Inter Moengatope but won the return leg in Suriname 2-1 because of the away goal system despite the 2-2 aggregate.
