The Bank of Nova Scotia on Sunday last joined hands with the Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation, the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club to honor some nine outstanding teachers in the Lower Corentyne area under the 4th Annual Bank of Nova Scotia/RHTY&SC Tribute to Teachers Programme.
Head of the Club’s Educational Programme Ms. Nermala Sewdat, who is also a teacher by profession, stated that teachers are without doubt the foundation of the education system but each year they go unrecognized due to the success of the students.
The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club and Scotia Bank over the years have played major roles in recognising and honoring dozens of outstanding teachers in the Lower Corentyne area and would continue to do so in the future.
Marketing Manager of Scotia Bank Ms. Jennifer Nelson congratulated the teachers on a job well done and noted that it was no easy task to be selected as Teacher of the Year by your school. Scotia Bank, she stated is committed to the development of the educational system and praised the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club for the role they played in the transformation of thousands in the Ancient County.
Hilbert Foster, CEO of the club, praised the educators as builders of the next generation and challenged them to remain discipline, committed and passionate towards the good cause.
Sewdat who won the Award in 2010 stated that the teachers were selected by the different schools’ administration based on personal discipline, attitude, relationship with students, and peers, performances of students, involvement in sports and attendance.
The nine teachers are: Ovett Johnson – J.C. Chandisingh, Jennifer Harrinarine – Rose Hall Town Primary, Ronita Basdeo – Ankerville Nursery, Melissa Williams – Port Mourant Secondary, Melina Ramkin – Lower Corentyne Secondary School, Jean De France – Corentyne Comprehensive School, Davindra Ramdihal – Belvedere Primary, Yasmin Mohamed – Port Mourant Primary and Debbie Marks – Rose Hall Town Nursery School.
