Dear Editor,
Demerara Waves quoted leader of the Guyana Peoples Partnership (GPP), Peter Ramsaroop, in an article published on 04/04/11, as saying, “I would be very blunt…The PNC has never won an election in their life”. I do not know where Mr. Ramsaroop got his facts, but I must say that it seems like the propaganda of the PPP/C has taken a firm root in the belly of the leader of the GPP.
I am disappointed that this member of the JOPP would make such an unfounded comment about another partner in the JOPP arrangement. One must therefore wonder what Mr. Ramsaroop’s objective for such an outburst is. Was it done with the intention to augment or rupture the talks ongoing with the JOPP, and to argue his group out of the arrangement?
I find Mr. Ramsaroop’s comments very premature, unfortunate and totally inimical to the spirit and objective of the JOPP. As a Guyanese who would have experienced the harsh realities of being governed by a most repressive regime, namely the PPP/C, I take a serious affront to anyone, group or organisation whose actions, deliberately or otherwise serves to undermine the hope of Guyana returning to good governance.
May I hasten to say to Mr. Ramsaroop, that there is but one case, recorded in the High Court, in which an election in Guyana was declared null and void; see Esther Perreira versus the state 1997? I believe that it would be reckless or inconceivable that he would refuse to cite this case as the one in point when speaking to the issue of “blotched-up” or rigged elections in Guyana.
