Dear Editor,
Please allow me to comment on this latest imbroglio in which Freddie Kissoon has found himself. I am an ardent admirer of people who seek the truth and are unafraid to call a spade a spade. There are not too many around.
I believe that to be able to do this is a genetic trait and is not something that can be learned. The reason being, that to be able to do this requires a high degree of intelligence, a good ability to recall the facts, an unusual level of bravery and a good heart. These abilities are related to the specie make-up. I am convinced that Freddie fits the bill. Another person who I suspect should also be included is Father Malcolm Rodrigues. Now, do not get me wrong. I am not saying that these people are necessarily right all of the time or even most of the time. But when they are convinced that they are wrong they are willing to apologise. The operative word here is convinced. The oratory and logical deductive skills of the person trying to convince another of his perspective on things play an important part in this ‘convincing’ process. So I say to both Freddie and the rest of the world – hang in there, this is a great time in journalism history in Guyana, and Freddie is the Columbus of the ship. I would even go as far as to say, without Freddie, we would have had more of the same. Kaieteur News management should have no illusions, Freddie Kissoon is Kaieteur News.
It is what Freddie does that makes Kaieteur News different from the other papers. Like he said, sometimes the runner stumbles, but most of the time he brings home the beef (I don’t eat bacon!).
Now, let us examine Adam Harris, the former editor of New Nation. Harris was a defender of a horrible regime whose practice of racism, corruption, nepotism and fascism has only been out-done by the PPP in the entire Caribbean (and if the PPP wants me to tell them in the letter columns of their corruption I will willingly oblige).
Remember Adam, when the PNC in 1976 had started saying that you have to ‘born a PNC’. Care to tell the country what really that meant? This is an area that I believe that Kissoon is making a huge mistake. I know Corbin. I know Corbin’s brother, Charles. The Charles I knew then, loved to emulate P. Reid, even down to the beard and walking stick. According to my argument above, Adam does not fit the bill.
The same argument applies to Joey Jagan. Although he proclaims to the contrary, he believes in dynasty politics – that is the only reason he is not part of the PPP. He believes Guyana owes him. His recent letter to Kaieteur News, “In defence of Freddie Kissoon, is another example of a long list of opportunistic and infantile behaviour, that has caused him to be left in the political wilderness. When you are the son of Cheddi Jagan and even the unenlightened PPP supporters do not want you, it is time to give it up.
As an aside, this is another area in which Freddie is flogging a dead horse. The majority of Indians will vote for the PPP, for the same reason that the majority of Red Necks vote Republican in the USA. Instead of Freddie berating them for this, he should analyse for us why this happens. And it is not peculiar to Guyana
Freddie wants to change the world. Look back Freddie there is hardly anyone behind you. The only thing most humans want to change is their material acquisitions, and after they get a lot of this, they want power and then power corrupts and that is the story of the world. Poor Freddie, your legacy will not be homogenous by any stretch of the word. Even to the historians you will be an enigma. Only the fools will not see your brilliance, your selflessness, your bravery (to the point of recklessness and some may say even stupidity).
I can say stop flogging a dead horse and enjoy your family, but it is in your genes – you cannot stop. You are one of a tiny minority of humans who genuinely hurt for others. Premised on the behavioural pattern of the overwhelming majority of humans, you definitely have a character ‘flaw’.
