Darkness at noon inside Freedom House

At noon on Monday in the 21st century in Guyana, the sun was shining but it didn’t get through the drapes on the windows of Freedom House. At that time a confabulation was in progress that marked the emergence of the PPP into philosophy. That emergence didn’t happen.
Since its inception, the PPP leaders, including its husband and wife founders, have never shown any familiarity with the great works of philosophy through which we come to understand the fulcrum on which rest the sacred, priceless values of life which include freedom, justice and liberty.
This husband and wife team conspired to deny their young cadres access to ontological philosophy. They were brought up on a diet of the ideological foundation of communism/fascism. These two schools of thought were very contemptuous of the inner meaning of freedom and justice.
It is outside the scope of this article to show how the evolution of communist/fascist thoughts has influenced the PPP since the fifties. Suffice it to say that since its birth, the PPP has never accepted the meaning of justice and freedom outside of the communist/fascist paradigm.
I will give two examples. One is the diseased, ancient, morally offensive, unphilosophical  conceptualization that the party is the vanguard that embodies the aspirations of and speaks for the total society.
At the psychological level, the past and present hierarchy of the PPP believes that it is ideologically correct for the leadership to identify an organizational head without direct voting by members, because the hierarchy is the embodiment of its supporters. This explains that now the choice is made by the vanguard elites, the workers will endorse the selection through three district conferences.
In what is a descent into Kafkaesque madness, the elite chose their point man and the supporters will vote for what has already been a done deal. This is nothing but pure political sickness.
In a world where in all the countries, with a few exceptions, the political parties choose the numero uno through open, competitive voting, the PPP heaps scorn on that pathway. In this scenario the PPP is an extremely frightening organization. There isn’t even the pretense of direct voting through which some form of manipulation will proceed in order to get the right individual at the top.
Deep inside its psychology, this hierarchy thought that Moses Nagamootoo’s call for a members’ election to choose the PPP’s election point man was heresy and political treason.
The PPP leaders do not accept that kind of freedom of choice and expression. Mr. Ralph Ramkarran only called for secret ballot for the Central Committee voting. He showed no interest in the advocacy of members having the right to make the decision. Ramkarran, Ramotar, Gail Teixeira and Rohee do not believe in open voting to choose a PPP leader. It may never happen for decades and decades to come, if at all.
We are talking here of group-think, ideology and psychological fixation.
We come now to the perfect example. After Mr. Ramotar was chosen as the consensus choice, the PPP issued a statement that cast aspersions on the competitive drive among individuals to become their party leader.
In the statement, it points to the unity of the party in that instead of being divided over the contest for leadership, the party’s unity was preserved because of the superior thinking of party leaders.
In other words, the party did not let the oneness of the party be undermined by an electoral race.
Nothing can be more frightening for Guyana than this ideological backwardness. What normal human beings see as normal, the PPP sees as abnormal. Freedom is enhanced when dreamers believe they can lead their organization and they vie with each other and the rest of society sees their qualities.
This is superior to any backroom deal on consensus. The entire country four months ago believed philosophy had reached the PPP. There would be the acceptance that people should compete with each other for glory and for the first time the PPP would see an open contest.
It was not to be. The PPP fell back on the only dimension of the dark side of human nature that it has known for all its collective life. Like true communists/fascists, the group-think fanatics bundled together and preached doom and gloom to each other if they do not cooperate and hold the faith together.
The only life they know is one in which they must act as a bunch and keep the world at bay. There can be no question about it; the PPP is bad for the future of Guyana.
