Ranks from the Guyana Fire Service and the Guyana Police Force have been dispatched to the North West District following reports of a fire in the location. This newspaper was told that on Saturday night fire destroyed two buildings in the Aranka Backdam.
While reports are still sketchy, this newspaper was told that the fire occurred around mid night on Saturday.
According to a police source, the Venezuelan has been identified as Francisco Silva. Reports are that the man and a few other friends had gone into the mining location looking for employment.
Fire Chief Marlon Gentle, when contacted yesterday told this publication that they also received the report about the fire in the location and investigations have been launched.
Gentle said that a team from the fire service as well as a team of police ranks has been dispatched to the location to begin investigation. When asked about a man perishing in the fire, Gentle said they have also received similar information but have no confirmation.
