With the remaining round of the Super 16 to be played today at the Everest Cricket Club, this year’s GT&T 10/10 Softball Cricket Competition is swinging into full gear and yesterday’s matches at the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground bore testimony of this with some exciting performances.
Among the highlights were the individual performances of Affiance Storm’s Ganesh Mangal, who slammed a pugnacious half century (73) which contained eight towering maximums and four boundaries; Bush Lot Challengers Harribat Hemraj (66) with seven sixes and two fours; Falcons Girls Alissa Azad (54) spiced with eight fours, Sandust XI Anand Rooplall 50 and Trophy Stall Angels Stephanie Rodney (46 not out) with four boundaries.
The winning teams now move into the quarter-finals which is set for next Saturday, at the Everest Cricket Club ground.
In the Men’s Division:
Adventure Sports Club defeated Coomacka Mines United by six wickets.
Coomacka Mines United took first strike and reached 78-7 with Adrain Edmondson 25, being the topscorer.
In reply, Adventure SC knocked off the runs comfortably, reaching 83-4 in 9.1 overs. Chandi Jairam stroked 27 and was later voted Man-of-the Match.
Affiance Storm them coasted to a 19 runs triumph over Bush Lot Challengers.
Affiance Storm made 127-3 off the allotted overs with G. Mangal 73.
In their turn at the crease, Bush Lot Challengers were restricted to 108-7 when the overs expired. H. Hemraj smashed 66.
Sandust XI then beat Speedboat SC by 5 runs in a nail biting encounter.
Taking first strike, Sandust XI compiled 92-7 with A. Rooplall hitting an even half century.
Speedboat SC made a gallant effort to reach the required target, but fell short by five runs, ending on 87 all out in 9.4 overs. They needed just six runs in the final over, but failed to achieve the target. Nizam Hussain stroked 38.
Wolf Warriors beat Leguan Super Stars by 62 runs.
Homesters Wolf Warriors underlined their status as one of the better teams by belting the highest total of the day,
posting a mammoth 160-2 against Leguan Super Stars with Mohamed Carew 42 and Amit Jairam 39 not out, being the principal scorers.
Leguan Super Stars in their response made a spirited effort, but fell short in the end, closing on 98-8.
In the Ladies segment:
Wakapoa defeated Capoey Warriors by six wickets.
Capoey Warriors posted 77-5 with Tishana Edwards making 35. Alana Phillips grabbed 2-7.
Wakapoa in reply, reached 81-4 in 7.4 overs. Orlinda Richards made 33 with 5 fours and a solitary six.
Rising Stars XI then sent Capoey Arrivals crashing out of the competition after registering a 3 wickets victory.
Capoey Arrivals totalled 68-2 with Monica Hendricks 26, being the chief contributor.
Risig Star XI in reply, finished on 69-7 off 9.5 overs. Adela Graham made 25.
Falcons then beat Speed Boat SC by 22 runs.
Falcons made 95-2 with A. Azad 54 not out.
Speed Boat SC in reply, 73-3. Daniella Samaroo 28.
Trophy Stall Angels defeated All Stars Conquerors by 31 runs. Trophy Stall Angels made 97-4 with Player of-the-Match S. Rodney 46 not out.
All Stars Conquerors in reply, 66-3. Akheila Castello hit 30.
The competition continues today with the final round of matches in the Super 16 stage.
