Land next to Sparendaam cemetery was properly secured – ‘Buddy’s’ Official
An official from Buddy’s has stated that the land next to the Sparendaam burial ground was secured through all the right channels and is not the government’s reserve.
This comes following an article published in the Stabroek News of March 21 under the headline “Big building going up next to Saprendaam burial ground”.
The buildings currently being constructed on the plot of land next to the Sparendaam burial ground.
Speaking on behalf of Omprakash ‘Buddy’ Shivraj, the official said that the land on which three structures are being built was sourced from a private citizen and fully paid for.
“Like any other plot of land, this land was paid for and all the necessary paper works are in place to show ownership.” This newspaper was told that the buildings that are being constructed will be used as a commercial facility and storage bonds.
In the report carried by the Stabroek News it was stated that person raised concerns that the buildings were being constructed on the reserve.
The official said that it is very frustrating to see reports of such nature being circulated when honest businesses are trying to survive in Guyana’s economy. The official added that while businesses are trying to create employment for citizens there are persons who are just out to create mischief.
It was also pointed out that buildings of such magnitude cannot just be erected in and around just any part of the city without the permission of all the relevant authorities.
“This is basic knowledge. A person can’t just go and throw up a building on Government’s reserve or on somebody else’s land. There are procedures and being an established business we have to follow procedures,” the official said.
It was also pointed out that since construction of the buildings started the persons responsible for burial has not approached any one from the business to raise a concern.
