Dear Editor,
I applaud Adam Harris and Stella for their principled positions on journalistic integrity as exemplified by their unwillingness to support Freddie Kissoon’s unsubstantiated claims. I am also most impressed with Dr. Henrey Jeffrey’s writings although I don’t support all of his analysis and views.
I never met Jeffrey but I admire the man’s writing style and his ability to distinguish between right and wrong, what is good for Guyana and what is not – characteristic missing from bête noire Freddie Kissoon. Freddie should consider emulating Adam and Jeffrey’s writing style and apologise to Adam, Stella and Glenn for his faux pas embarrassing the paper.
In reading Jeffrey, I can see he is not haughty and mighty. When he errs, he concedes it unlike Freddie who claims he is never wrong and who refuses to apologise even when evidence is overwhelmingly stacked against him in his arguments as Stella and Adam exposed.
Jeffrey’s response to Mr. Freddie Kissoon (Kaieteur News Mar 29) is clinical, destroying Freddie’s fuzzy arguments. His earlier responses to Freddie were also excellent. Dr. Jeffrey comes across like a scholar and an intellectual. His writings flow logically and are rational. Jeffrey lays out his case and offers supporting information to back his points – hallmark of a scholar. One can see that this gentleman has sound academic training and is no pseudo scholar unlike another character who pretends to be a scholar but engages in gutter like character assassination.
When one reads Freddie, there are ranting and ravings with no logical arguments or sound reasoning. He manipulates facts to distort the truth. His writings lack impartiality and objectivity. They are dogmatic and polemical. He engages in diatribe and is driven by a hatred for the government, its officials and supporters.
If one writes a positive commentary of the government, he fumes and he attacks people without supporting evidence. He misleads, slanders, and maligns journalistic credibility, even challenging superior writers like Adam and Stella. His vituperative comments are irresponsible.
Freddie needs to support his statements with references and educational facts and be civil in discourse and debate – end the negative tone. And his arguments are eclectic and illogical. Many times, one can’t quite follow what Freddie is trying to say. He offers conclusions and arguments without basis and when his suppositions are questioned, he belittles people convinced he is always right when evidence point au contraire.
Many of his accusations are defamatory and he gets away with them because of the untrammeled press freedom that exists in the country.
People are very civil and respectful to Freddie (examine the soft tones of the commentaries from Adam, Stella, Jeffrey, Gill, and myself). Yet Freddie does not respond in kind.
Freddie questioned Stella’s journalistic integrity (Kaieteur News, Mar 28) demanding an apology when she exposed his flaws in journalism. As Stella notes, Freddie maliciously deceives people. Freddie claims Glen was using Stella to get at him for his blunders. Glenn refused to get into that quarrel and every reasonable person has backed Stella and Adam Harris for reprimanding Freddie.
Freddie was not comfortable with Adam Harris chiding him over his faux pas. He was also not pleased with Glenn Lall’s lack of support for his lies. Glenn is peeved at Freddie for writing false information in a recent column. He refused to apologise for it with the defence that the government has done many wrongs bringing the newspaper into disrepute. Freddie’s excuse is others also pen false information and they are not reprimanded.
Freddie fulminated in rage when journalist Gordon Forte shamed him for calling the late Sharief Khan a racist without evidence (March 22). Freddie shot back attacking Forte (March 23) saying that he is not backing down from his claim refusing to highlight any evidence to back his claim. No one who worked with Sharief has made any charge of racism against the man. Adam used to work with Sharief and makes no such charge, because Sharief was a professional who did not wear his race on his collar when he reported on or edited articles.
Freddie should consider emulating Jeffrey’s scholarly penmanship or the credentials of Adam.
