Crosse eyes century for MSC

Malteenoes eighteen-year-old left-hander Kwame Crosse looks well set for his second first division century while National batsmen Leon Johnson and Vishaul Singh hit fifties for GCC on the opening day of the latest round in the Georgetown Cricket Association’s Carib/Heroes Cup two-day first division cricket competition yesterday.
At the Guyana Defence Force ground, Crosse, a former Guyana under-15 Captain, who was Guyana’s leading run scorer in last year’s Regional under-19 three day cricket competition, opened the batting and batted responsibly to remain unbeaten on 65 as Malteenoes took first innings points from GDF.
Crosse, who is one of three Guyanese in the West Indies under-19 team which travels to Dubai later this month for three under-19 One-Day matches and a youth Test against young Australia, stroked eight fours in his disciplined innings and shared in half-century partnerships with Vishaul Narayan (23) for the second wicket and Skipper Steven Jacobs (28*) for the third as Malteenoes reached 150-2 replying the GDF’s 134.
Guyana and GDF opener Shemroy Barrington struck his former Malteenoes team mate Jacobs for a straight six but was soon outfoxed by the off-spin and edged a catch to the keeper when seven away from his fifty.
Berbician first-class player Esuan Crandon managed 19 but only Skipper Paul Castello and Randy Lindore, both former Malteenoes players, were the only other batsmen to reach double figures with 17 and 13 respectively as Jacobs finished with 4-57.
Former National under-19 pacer Seon Daniels took 3-27 in a controlled spell with the new ball, while teenage leg-spinner Steve Sankar polished off the GDF innings to finish with 2-14.
At DCC, Johnson (56) and Singh (55) were dismissed when well set for big scores as GCC reached 214-8 on the rain affected first day of their match.
When play began at 12:30hrs due to morning rain, 21-year-old former National under-19 left-hander Robin Bacchus fell for 19. Treon Forde (24) also got into double figures.
Former National under-19 left-arm unorthodox spinner Totaram Bishun took 4-34 and First-Class all-rounder Chris Barnwell (2-33) bowled well for the home team. A wet pitch at Eve Leary and the inability of the Police ground-staff to remove the cut grass from the outfield resulted in the other match scheduled for yesterday between Transport Sport Club and GNIC, being called off.
Today is the final day and action in the two matches is scheduled to commence at 09:30hrs.
