Three persons escaped death last evening when an SUV careened off of the East Bank Public Road at Mc Doom, Greater Georgetown, and ended up in the yard of the Masjid.
The vehicle PJJ 665, according to the road service licence, is registered to Ganesh Seeram of First Street Alexander Village.
The injured persons, two men and a woman, were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
This newspaper understands that the vehicle was speeding south along the public road when the driver lost control of the vehicle. It sped off of the road colliding with a raised section of the bridge and literally flew over the canal, then crashed through the concrete fence eventually landing in the yard of the Masjid.
There were several persons in the Masjid at the time.
Elders at the Masjid said that it is suspected that the driver of the vehicle was under the influence of alcohol.
They also lamented that ever since the road was transformed into a four-lane highway the vehicles traversing the roads continuously increase their speed.
The worshippers are calling on the Guyana Police Force to have a greater presence on the road so as to help to curb what they called the lawlessness.
Scores of persons converged at the scene following the accident and could be heard discussing the miraculous way in which the vehicle ended up in the yard of the Masjid.
