David Persaud, the 74-year-old brother of Toolsie Persaud of Toolsie Persaud Limited, last evening collapsed at the Gymnasium of the Pegasus Hotel and died.
This newspaper understands that the Persaud, who is the former Managing Director of Toolsie Persaud Limited, used the facility every night to work out.
According to reports, the gym would be closed each night at 21:00hrs and when the security when to lock up the gym Persaud was found was found lying on the ground unconscious.
Another security was alerted and two doctors who were at the hotel lounging at the time were summoned and tried Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to no avail.
Foul play was not suspected despite the fact that the body lay in the gymnasium for several hours with police ranks and hotel sealing off the area.
The 74-year-old man leaves to mourn his four sons and a daughter as well as other family members.
Persaud was the father of Anand Persaud, the Editor-in-Chief of Stabroek News.
Toolsie and David Persaud were engaged in a court battle over shares in Toolsie Persaud Limited (TPL).
In the Commercial Court, before Justice Rishi Persaud, David was claiming 33.3 per cent of the 10,000,000 issued.
David Persaud served as the Managing Director of the Company until October 29, 2009 and Secretary of the Company until 2010 when he claimed that he was removed from that position.
