Krishendat Ramoo was named cricketer-of-the-year when the Achievers Sports Club on Saturday last held their 9th Annual Awards and Prize giving Ceremony at the Regional Democratic Council Boardroom, Region No. 5, Fort Wellington, West Coast, Berbice.
Delivering the feature address at the event which honored the outstanding performers during the year 2010 was Mr. Carl Brandon, Director of Youth within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and Mr. Inderjeet Persaud, Director of the Aditya Kids Trust Fund Foundation.
Brandon in his address advised the young cricketers to see themselves as role models to their peers and to follow them not only with the bat and ball but in all aspects. They were reminded that education should be the most integral part of their lives and they must say No to Drugs.
Brandon urged the youths to be SMART while also encouraging the Club President and Executive to continue the good work in assisting the young players in developing their cricketing skills.
Cricketer and Ambassador of the Year is Krishendat Ramoo, received a trophy and bat compliments of the Aditya Kids Trust Fund Foundation. The first runner-up, Sherwyn McPherson followed by Keon Joseph, who topped in 2008/2009. Joseph was selected as the leading Under-19 cricketer with Mc Pherson as the runner-up. Ms. Natasha Gangoo copped the Female Cricketer of the Year award.
Other Cricketers of the year: Under-13 – Grisean Grant; Under-15 – Quacy McPherson; Under-17 – Shardat Harripaul.
The Most Improved Under-19 Player – Raun Johnson and Brentnol Woolford. Junior Cricketer – Sherwyn McPherson.
Under-13 Most Improved Player – Darius Nedd; Under-13 Bowler of the Year – Grisean Grant; Under-15 Player of the Year – Kurd Griffith; Under-19 Bowler of the Year – Sherwyn McPherson; Under-19 Batsman – Raffiel Estriado.
Other awards handed out to senior cricketers: Best Attendance – Keon Joseph; Runner-up Attendance – Sherwyn McPherson; Most Disciplined Player – Sherwin Peterkin; Player and Worker of the Year – Dillon Yearwood; Successful Captain – Sherwyn McPherson; Successful Spin Bowler – Krishendat Ramoo; Batsman of Year – Artley Bailey.
