– Goodwill tour concludes
Guyana dismissed any possible challenge from Suriname in their Goodwill tour that wrapped up yesterday in Paramaribo.
Guyana’s junior male team thrashed the Surinamese in the team competition, winning five of the seven games with Jamaal Duff and Stefan Corlette the only players to drop games against Maurice Lei of Suriname.
Guyana’s National Table Tennis Coach, Linden Johnson (centre) conducts a training session for the Surinamese aimed at strengthening their player-structure in Suriname.
French Guiana was also expected to compete in the tournament, but visa issues prevented them from visiting Suriname.
Guyana’s senior team of Edinho Lewis, Joel Alleyne, Hewley Griffith, Denzel Duff, Nigel Bryan and the lone female on the tour, Natalie Cummings then blew away the Surinamese to ensure that their mission was well accomplished.
A representative 12-member team, comprising new and emerging talents in the sport had left the country last Thursday to for the Goodwill tour, which was also aimed at strengthening the sport that is now being promulgated in Suriname.
