– team returns from area
Police are to prepare a report about their findings into February’s shooting death of Samson Jacob Aaron at Kurukubaru, Pakaraimas.
Commander of E and F Division, Assistant Police Commissioner David Ramnarine, said that the team which had visited the area to conduct further investigations has returned.
According to Commander Ramnarine, the team, which was led by an inspector, returned “after four days of an arduous journey”.
He said that the team received more cooperation from the community and investigators managed to contact most of the persons that they needed to question.
With the team’s return, a report is now being finalised.
In a previous statement, Ramnarine had told Kaieteur News that police were hampered during the first investigation because many of the residents had refused to cooperate with the investigating ranks.
Aaron, of Kurukubaru, Pakaraimas, was found lying in a hammock in his home on February 17, last, with a gunshot wound above the right temple. A loaded firearm and a bullet casing were reportedly recovered from the scene.
Police ruled Aaron’s death a suicide, after traces of gunshot residue were found on one of the victim’s hands. But relatives allege that while investigators questioned other villagers and members of the village council, they never questioned any of Aaron’s relatives.
They suspect that he was killed by a woman with whom he had a dispute.
They also claimed that the firearm that was found at the scene belongs to a prominent member of the community.
They alleged that the same weapon was used in a shooting about two years ago.
The relatives subsequently met with Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee, who requested that police officials conduct a second investigation.
