Dear Editor,
I am morally bound to respond to the deceptions pounded out in the letter by Prem Misir, “The test of Obama’s soft diplomacy in the Middle East and North Africa.” Mr. Editor, his letter cannot go unanswered because of its many inconsistencies designed to deceive the largest section of Guyanese who are the readers of Kaieteur News.
In all seriousness, it is intellectually dishonest for Misir to see the Cold War from the former Soviet Union perspective alone.
Either Misir does not understand the nuances associated with the Cold War from both the Soviet Union and the U.S. perception or he is deliberately being dishonest and deceptive and a misleading propagandist.
First of all, the Cold War was an ideological war of words between the U.S and the former Soviet Union, as they strive for world dominance.
There were no direct military conflicts between the Soviet Union and the U.S., surrogate countries did their bidding and nuclear weapons act as deterrence.
Misir has damaged his credibility badly (that is if he has any) when he quoted from the works of scholars who had opposed U.S. policy and intentionally omitted those who supported the U.S. policy during the Cold War. Misir accused the U.S. of trying to dominate the world during the Cold War and his mention of this paradigm or that paradigm to justify his argument shows how unsound and bankrupt he is as an intellectual.
My questions to the chief PPP propagandist are: What were the intentions of the former communist Soviet Union? Was it not to spread communism around the world, including Guyana?
To say and I quote from Misir’s diatribe, “the [U.S.] administration spokesman publicly hailed Batista . . . as a staunch ally and a good friend at a time when Batista was murdering thousands, destroying the last vestiges of freedom and stealing hundreds of millions of dollars from the Cuban people …” This particular quote reveals the limitations of Misir’s intellectual ability to know that the Soviet Union did worse by invading a number of countries in Eastern Europe, murdering hundreds of thousands, and denying hundreds of millions their natural rights and freedoms. In other words, it imposed communism and dictatorial regimes on them.
It is very sad and unfortunate for a pro-chancellor not to know this or if he does, then he has purposely turned a blind eye to the atrocities committed by Stalin and those dictators in Eastern Europe.
Now we know why Guyana has a dictatorial regime. It is because Misir is Jagdeo’s and the PPP chief propagandist. Go figure!!! In speaking of destroying the last vestiges of freedom and stealing hundreds of millions of dollars, it is for the readers to know that Misir is referring to the ‘boss man’ and the untouchables in Guyana. That is all he has proof of, nothing else.
Last but not least, I would agree with Joey Jagan for Prem Misir to devote the bulk of his time in trying to rid UG of its dilapidated structures and improve the plight of its students.
If he has any conscious and is concerned about higher education then his focus should be to solicit funds from the ‘boss man’, Mr. Bennetitticeous to help the ailing institution. Should Misir do this, then “goat ain’t bite he.”
