They say time flies when one is enjoying himself and though it’s merely 12 months ago, it seems an eternity since Hector Stoute last staged ‘Oldies are Goldies,’ a show where Guyana’s best singers and entertainers extol themselves, providing high class entertainment for lovers of this genre of music.
Yes, it’s here once again and lovers of oldies are advised to grease their heels as Musical Moods and Fantasies presents Oldies are Goldies at the National Cultural Centre on Sunday April 10 next.
Last year, the audience was thrilled as artists the likes of Michelle Gobin and Colin Ambrose as these songbirds crooned their way into their hearts.
This year will be no different as these entertainers will join with others to consummate a package that would titillate the musical desires of those Oldies are Goldies ‘faithfuls’ who have religiously attended the programme over the years.
This year, Stoute assures that he has put together a mouthwatering package that is sure to titillate patrons’ culinary delight.
Rudy Blair would set the stage for an enthralling night with the opening poem while Enzinga would continue the tradition with dance and drama.
Then there is Sherry Ann Dyal who, last year, sang past the defenses of the audience and had everyone tapping their feet and ruing the absence of space to really express themselves.
Or who could forget Simone Dowden whose songs had couples snuggling close to each other, oblivious of their troubles and trials. Well it’s déjá vu when these performers grace the stage for another memorable presentation.
The organisers have also added the golden voices of GT&T jingles competition winner, Malika Boyd, Michelle Gobin, Clement Durjan and Colin Ambrose. There will also be added entertainment when the Nzinga dancers from ACDA take to the stage.
The organisers have also considered those with a love for instrumental and calypso music among other genres. Come to think of it, the programme has considered the plurality of the Guyanese society and the culture mix; putting together a package that underlines this fact.
As such, apart from the songs of yesteryear, folks could expect a potpourri of cultural items like dramatic poetry, instrumental music and skits among others.
The male crooners would also be in attendance and patrons could look forward to presentations from Phillip Barton, Keith Glen and the singing duo, Sharon and Kennard Corbin.
“There’s something for everyone,” assures Mr. Stoute. Indeed there will be because ACDA will be there with African dancers and drummers while skits would depict techniques and strategies to avoid the dreaded HIV virus and consequently, AIDS.
Yes, there is something for everyone.
Those accustomed to an aerial view of the show, from the balcony seats, will be a mite disappointed following the decision by the organisers to utilise only the auditorium for the show.
Fortunately, whether seated above or below, fans will still be able to enjoy a great show package especially with them in mind.
