After being roused by barking dogs, Sufyan Mohammed, 36, a businessman of 25 Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara was confronted by a masked knife-wielding thief in his yard. He subsequently shot the thief in the left side shoulder. This happened during the wee hours of yesterday.
The thief was identified as Raymond Mohamed, 36, of 19 Herstelling, East Bank Demerara. He is under police guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
According to reports, Sufyan, after confronting the thief discharged a round in the air and Raymond ran to the back of the yard where he was cornered by the businessman who discharged another round in Raymond’s direction hitting him in the left side shoulder.
When the businessman was contacted he told this publication that he had fired his security guard almost a month ago since he was caught sleeping on the job and items on the premises were being stolen.
He explained that he decided to take his security in hand and eventually caught the thief who attacked him, causing him to use his licensed firearm to defend himself in the process.
