The body of Manoj Devanand Singh, 43 of 13th Street, Foulis, East Coast Demerara was fished out of an Enmore trench by police at around 06:00 hours yesterday, hours after he was reported missing.
Reports revealed that the deceased was last seen drinking alcohol with a friend at a house he was assisting to construct earlier on Saturday.
However, he and the friend left the property at 18:30 hrs and headed for their separate homes.
But a few minutes later Singh’s friend then received a telephone call informing him that the man had ridden into a trench and could not be located.
Kaieteur News was told that the friend went to the scene and after venturing into the trench where Singh had gone under he was only able to retrieve his bicycle.
Since it was dark, the search for Singh’s body was temporarily abandoned only to be resumed early yesterday morning when it was eventually pulled from the water.
Persons who were at the scene suggested that the man may have miscalculated his route while riding home since he was drunk. And he tumbled into the trench where he drowned.
The body was removed and taken to Lyken Funeral Parlour.
