Hospitalised logger Claude Clarke, 41, believes that his co-worker took advantage of his injury to rob him of close to 10 pennyweights of raw gold and cash.
Clarke who was airdashed to the city last Thursday after a tree fell on him, is convinced that his colleague “Cort” who assisted him during his rescue robbed him, since at the time he was incapable of checking and looking after his financial resources.
“When the tree fall on me I was still conscious, I know everything that went on, Troy give Cort some money to give me and Cort told me he put the money in my bag. So when I reach Ogle I told my wife I get some money in the bag but when she checked for the money with my sisters, no money was there. Cort never put the money. Now I see why people say you don’t mix gold and friends,” said the injured man.
A few days ago, Clarke was reportedly clearing a piece of land in Masawini, North West District, when he met his misfortune that caused him to suffer broken legs and injuries to his head.
According to the victim, using a power saw, he was cutting down trees from a piece of land to build a shop.
During the process a limb from a rotting tree broke off and subsequently pinned him to the ground.
“Is a man passing with a motorbike see me and cut the tree so I can come out,” said Clarke, who was lying on his hospital bed in pain. The injured man said that he made a phone call to his wife and told her of the accident and asked her to pray for him.
The man was rushed to Port Kaituma Cottage Hospital and upon his arrival doctors recommended that he be transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
After many surgeries Clarke is now recovering and is able to speak about his major loss.
