Guyana’s team of powerlifters to the regional championships staged in the Cayman Islands over the weekend, continued their impressive performance on the final day with Randolph Morgan, ‘Big’ John Edwards and Dawn Barker emerging as the best lifters in their respective categories as they secured more gold medals.
Kenneth Melville and Karel Mars also added to their gold tally as well.
Despite finishing second overall, Guyana’s performance was simply outstanding as their dominated the event with a small team.
In some results furnished by powerlifting federation boss Peter Green, who is with the team which return in the wee hours of tomorrow morning:
105.0kg CLASS – Men Juniors B (83.0kg – 120.0+kg category)
1st Kenneth Melville, Martin Sheah and Nigel Bally of TRI second and third
105.0KG CLASS – Men Open
1st Karel Mars (GUY) – Squat 307.5kg / bench 197.5kg / dead lift 295kg / total 800.0kg
2ND Adrian Browne (TRI) – squat 305kg / bench 177,5kg / dead lift – 310.0kg / total 792.5kg
3RD Kenneth Melville (GUY) – squat 282.5kg / bench 155.0kg / dead lift – 257.5kg / total – 695.0kg; This segment was billed the clash of the tournament as Mars who was beaten by Browne last year was able to turn the tables.
120.0kg class – Men Open
1st – John Edwards, 2nd – Anthony Farnum (TRI), 3rd – Raymond Victorine (USVI)
120.0 CLASS – Men Masters M1
1ST John Edwards, 2nd – Carlos Greene (TRI), 3RD – Anthony Farnum
