-Team XTREME launched
By Rawle Welch
Motor Racing in Guyana took another giant step when Team XTREME Motor Sports was launched on Friday evening, at the Everest Sports Club on Carifesta Avenue.
The Team which is headed by Gavin Gayadin, also includes his brother Ryon, grass track and circuit racer Andy Rajkaran and shifter karter M. Seeraran.
Among those witnessing the unveiling of the new initiative were President of the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club Raj Boodhoo, Past President Vishok Persaud, Parliamentary Secretary within the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport Steve Ninvalle, former champion Mark Vieira, fellow competitors and racing enthusiasts.
Riding close on the heels of a host of positive developments that has transpired in the sport recently, the new initiative is perhaps the first of its kind and just adds to the spur that the industry is enjoying currently.
Over the past four months the increased activity in motor racing is certainly unrivalled and combined with the stated intentions of the Executive it seems set to overtake other mainstream disciplines such as cricket and football that has dominated the local calendar for a number of years.
Speaking at the occasion, Boodhoo said that the idea of the members to form an alliance has made the local governing body proud, adding that they are the first to do so in Guyana.
He stated that the development is good for motor sports in Guyana and called on other participants in the sport to copy the idea. “I want to make a call to corporate Guyana to support these guys and help take the sport to another level,” Boodhoo urged.
Ninvalle in his remarks recognised the initiative as a good one, adding that it gives potential a good opportunity to receive maximum mileage by coming on board.
He too took the opportunity to throw out a challenge to the business community to offer their financial assistance to the members.
He reminded that the Government is doing its part, but it cannot do it alone, pointing to all the other disciplines that receive its support. Ninvalle called on XTREME Sports to do all in its power to assist in the further development of the sport.
“I want to say here tonight that the Government and the Ministry of Sport is fully behind this kind of initiative,” Ninvalle assured.
Meanwhile, the first event on the GMR&SC calendar is the April 3 Meeting, at the newly re-surfaced South Dakota Circuit.
