Play in the Mayor’s Cup football championship continues this evening with quarterfinal action at the Georgetown Football Club ground, Bourda.
Today’s quarters will see powerhouse Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United looking to impose their will on Santos in the curtain raiser at 6:00pm. Fresh off their 8-0 bombardment of BV, Alpha will hope for a similar dominant performance against their city rivals.
A $1M first prize is on offer and Alpha will also be using this tournament as preparation for the CFU Club Championship second round.
The second contest promises to be a scorcher between Pele and Riddim Squad in the nightcap at 8:00pm. Riddim Squad are capable of upsetting any big name team and Pele would be aware of that and will hope to turn back their challenge, but the East Bank side have other plans.
Several sponsors are on board and among them are Banks DIH, Macorp, Digicel, General Equipment Guyana Limited, Busta, National Pride, Dr Colin Watson, Gold Target Export, Giftland Office Max, AH&L Kissoon, John Fernandes Limited, Bakewell, Keishar’s, Winston Rambarran, Nazar Mohamed, Humphrey Bakery, Body Max Gym, Rusal, Muneshwar’s, Ricks and Sari, BK International, Guyana Lottery Company, GIDI and Commissioner of Police Henry Greene.
