The inaugural Len’s Craft Optical/Sunburst Orange Juice Under-15 League for City teams is expected to finally get off the mark today at the Georgetown Football Club Ground with four matches.
The action which was to have started two weeks ago had to be put on hold due to excessive rainfall which affected other disciplines including cricket, rugby, volleyball and horseracing.
Ten clubs will be vying for the championship trophy and bragging rights in this tournament. Pele, Sunburst Camptown, Georgetown Football Club, Houston Stars and BK International Western Tigers are the teams competing in Group-One; Group-Two comprise of Santos, Fruta Conquerors, Riddim Squad, Flamingo and Renaissance.
Setting the pace for what is anticipated to be an exciting tournament from 08:00hrs today will be Sunburst Camptown and Georgetown Football Club.
BK Int. Western Tigers match skills with Houston Stars from 09:15hrs; Flamingo and Santos lock horns from 10:30hrs with the final game of the day bringing together Fruta Conquerors and Renaissance.
The top two teams from each group will book semi finals sports. Three (3) points will be awarded for a win, one (1) for a draw and none (0) for a loss.
Only players born on or after January 1st 1996 are eligible to play in this tournament which will see the winning team being lifting the championship trophy and gold medals; the losing finalist receives a trophy and silver medals while the winner of the third place game featuring the losing semi finalists will collect bronze medals and a trophy.
Fourth place will also attract a trophy while there will be individual prizes for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament, player to score the most goals and the best goal keeper.
The Guyana Football Referees Council will be providing officials for all the games during the tournament which will be played under the rules of the Georgetown Football Association, Guyana Football Federation and FIFA.
