The R1 Vodka trophy and $300,000 will be at stake in this weekend’s two-day Domino Gittens and Next Level Dominoes Club countrywide tournament billed for Saturday and Sunday at the National Gymnasium.
Local beverage giant Banks DIH Ltd. presented the first prize to tournament organizer Lyall Gittens at Thirst Park on Thursday.
Communications Manager of Banks DIH Troy Peters said that his company was once again sponsoring this prestigious tournament since most of the leading domino teams will be competing.
“R1 Vodka is one of the company’s latest products to hit the local market and we are pleased to introduce this product to ardent supporters of dominoes,” he added.
Gittens thanked Banks DIH for its support once again and indicated that the tournament will see a record number of teams participating.
According to Gittens 40 teams from Georgetown have already registered and a large turnout is expected from rural domino teams who will be provided with free accommodation during their stay in Georgetown.
The second placed team will cart off $200,000 and a Trophy while $100,000 will be presented to the team placing third and fourth place will take home $50,000 and a trophy.
Starting time is 13:00 hours on both days and according to Gittens there will be prizes for the first 25 teams to arrive at the venue.
