Dear Editor,
I congratulate the publisher of Kaieteur News for the outstanding job he is doing by providing the Guyanese people with not just news but real information.
Mr. Lall made me very proud as a son of the soil of Wakenaam.
Mr. Editor, permit me to raise a few issues that are of great concern to me as they relate to the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS). Mr. Raymond Edwards wrote in a letter published in the New York edition of November 5-11- 2010:
(1) The Low Carbon Development Strategy has created significant international recognition and respect for Guyana.
(2) President Bharrat Jagdeo secured for Guyana international respect when he made known his plan to create a (LCDS) that would counter the negative effect of green house gases and simultaneously generate much needed revenue for Guyana.
(3) The LCDS as designed by President Jagdeo through the Kyoto Protocol ensure that
Guyana is compensated for protecting its rain forest
(4) Their claim that there was international mistrust for the Jagdeo Administration was false.
Because of the mistrust for the Jagdeo administration stringent conditions were imposed and the World Bank was asked to be the police to ensure compliance.
When President Jagdeo ranted and raved in Cancun in the presence of the Norwegian Prime Minister he was lying and he should be ashamed of himself, he cannot ask for evidence to prove that he was lying.
When he said that Guyana has delivered but still cannot get the money he was lying. The World Bank climate change envoy Mr. Andrew Steer said that the bank wants to ensure that the money is well used (why would your President say that the bank is the problem).
In October, when the President referred to World Bank officials as silly and useless and stalling the release of the funds he again lied to the international community and force the officials to throw caution to the wind and forget about diplomacy.
The President also lied to the Amerindian leaders when he said that the international community must get out of the way and allow Guyana to get on with our development.
Dr George Norton was right on target when he said that it was not the World Bank that was hampering progress.
