– L’Aventure also in winners’ row
After waiting for four years and behind a vocal crowd that included parents and fans, Covent Garden Secondary School rewrote the history books when they became the first school to win 10 championships after defeating L’Aventure in the final of the Ministry of Sport / National Sports Commission / Al Sport & Tour Promotions Windball Cricket Competition which ended on Tuesday evening at the National Gymnasium.
Covent Garden won the toss and took to the middle first and scored 116-2 with MVP of the Tournament Shameer Fazal 44 not out, Mark Rhobe 29, Kenrick Paris 17.
Azar Deen 1-25 & Travis Cato 1-37.
L’Aventure in their reply were restricted to 85-4 with T. Cato 52 and Shafeik Deen 23, being the principal scorers.
S Fazal took 2-32, M Rhobe 1-18 and Shawn Hernandes 1-35.
In the playoff for 3rd place, Monar Educational Institute beat three-time Christmas Term champions Institute of Business Education by nine wickets.
Institute of Business Education batted first after winning the toss and made 58-3 with Travis Persaud 32 not out and Stayawn Jowharilall 16, the top-scorers.
Julio Jones grabbed 3-16.
Monar Educational Institute Region #3 reached 60-1 in reply. J Jones made 31, Donric Rodney 24. T Persaud picked up1-6.
Player of the Tournament prize went to Queenstown Secondary’s Fanstin Maglorie, while Best All-rounder accolade was won by Travis Cato.
In the female category, L’Aventure beat Central High by eight wickets to win the coveted title.
Central High School batted first and scored 59-5 with Akisha Odai 19, Cashana Jack 12. National junior player Tia Alfred bagged 2-9, Kamesha Sparman 2-10 & Tishana Douglas 1-13.
L’Aventure reached 61-2 in their turn at the crease with MVP of the tournament T. Douglas 45 not out. Rennay Shepherd took 1-18 and Most Improved Player in the tournament Towanna Thompson 1-19.
School of the Nations was adjudged the Best dress Team, while Supply Secondary copped the Most Disciplined team, Covent Garden, the Best Crowd support prize and L’Aventure the Most improved team.
