Police have returned to the Pakaraimas area where Samson Jacob Aaron was found dead last month to ascertain whether his demise was a suicide or a murder.
Commander of E and F Division, Assistant Commissioner David Ramnarine told Kaieteur News that a team departed for the area yesterday. He is yet to receive any further information from the detectives.
Aaron’s relatives say that they have information which led them to believe that he was murdered by a woman and that persons were covering up the truth.
They subsequently met with Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee, who requested that police officials conduct a second investigation.
Aaron, of Kurukubaru, Pakaraimas, was found lying in a hammock in his home on February 17, last, with a gunshot wound above the right temple. A loaded firearm and a bullet casing were reportedly recovered from the scene.
Police ruled Aaron’s death a suicide, after traces of gunshot residue were found on one of the victim’s hands. But relatives allege that while investigators questioned other villagers and members of the village council, they never questioned any of Aaron’s relatives, who could have pointed them to the woman they suspect.
They also claimed that the firearm that was found at the scene belongs to a prominent member of the community. They alleged that the same weapon was used in a shooting about two years ago.
Commander David Ramnarine had told Kaieteur News that police were hampered during the first investigation because many of the residents had refused to cooperate with the investigating ranks.
