Wendell Meusa showed his supremacy at rapid chess as he demolished all eight of his opponents in this year’s second DDL/TOPCO Juices Rapid Chess Tournament held on Monday March 21 at the KEI-SHAR’S Sports Club in Georgetown.
Meusa scored the maximum eight points from eight games without any opponent even claiming a draw against him.
Copping second place among the seniors was Shiv Nandalall with six points.
He was followed by Irshad Mohammad in third place and Alexander Duncan placed fourth.
The eight round one-day tournament attracted two dozen chess players, 16 of whom were juniors. Anthony Drayton, student of the Government Technical Institute, who defeated a few seniors as well, emerged winner of the junior category.
He was followed by current National Junior Chess Champion and St. Stanislaus student, Ron Motilall. Saeed Ali of Richard Ishmael Secondary placed third while Joshua Pedro of Bishops High School copped fourth.
Rashad Hussain of Mae’s School came in fifth place and he also won the special prize as winner of the shortest game. Hussain defeated Suhai Feng of North Georgetown Secondary in less than five minutes during their encounter. Each of the eight games entailed a maximum 40 minutes of rapid chess.
Cash prizes and trophies were presented by DDL/TOPCO Representative Marlon Gravesande.
