A West Coast Berbice man will spend the next year in jail after he pleaded guilty to the charge of damage to property.
Compton Mingo, 34, of Number Four village West Coast Berbice was handed the penalty on Wednesday at the New Amsterdam magistrate court by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo when he appeared before her, charged with damaging Compton Schulz’s pick up.
Prosecutor Corporal Sherlock King told the court that Mingo and Schultz knew each other but are not friends. He stated that the accused is always in the habit of causing trouble and threatening the virtual complainant.
On Saturday March 5, around 22:00 hrs the defendant was seen by the complainant’s son near the fuel tank of his father pickup GFF 2454 lighting a piece of paper which he threw into the open tank. Upon seeing the young man the defendant ran away.
Schultz’s son immediately ran towards the pickup, pulled out the paper and put out the fire. He subsequently informed his father and a report was made to the police.
Mingo was subsequently arrested and charged.
