Amateur pugilists are advised to heighten their training as the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) are preparing to run off the National Novices boxing championships from April 22-24.
The tournament is opened to those boxers that have never fought in any of the tournaments above the junior level, organized by the GABA.
Tournament organizer, Terrence Poole made this disclosure on Tuesday last when the senior amateurs participating in this month’s ProAm boxing cards convened for the pre-fight press conference at the NCN studios.
Meanwhile, Mr. Poole would be the facilitator of a coaching programme under the auspices of GABA that gets underway on April 13-16. Activities will be between 10:00-12:00hrs before breaking for lunch.
The sessions resume from 13:00hrs-15:00hrs.
Mr. Poole, a former top amateur boxer, is the coach of the Guyana Defence Force boxing team and is also on the panel of national coaches.
He is very experienced having undergone several International Amateur Boxing Association (IABA) approved courses in Hungary and other countries.
He is currently rated as a two star coach by the governing body.
Those persons interested in participating in the course may register at the office of GABA President, Steve Ninvalle in Main Street Georgetown.
