More action in the Mayor’s Cup football championship is set for today at the Georgetown Football Club ground, Bourda, with a double header as the tournament has reached its quarterfinal round.
Exciting match-ups have been promised from 6:00pm with Fruta Conquerors against the Guyana Defence Force, while Pele oppose Riddim Squad at 8:00pm in the nightcap.
The opening fixture will see defending champs GDF battling Fruta Conquerors and they will look to Royan Morrison, Hubert Pedro, Desford Williams, Delroy Deen, Telson McKinnon and Eusi Phillips to lead their charge.
Conquerors will depend on Trevon Lythcott, Delon Williams, Jolyon Harry, Eon Alleyne, Colin Edwards and veteran Lester Peters.
Riddim Squad have issued a threat that they will beat Pele and the Mocha Arcadia side will have the Ramsey clan; Llyton, Stephon, Amos and Rawle, along with the Hope boys; Sceyon, Sheldon and Sherwin and Derville Stewart leading their challenge. Pele will look to the talents of Konata Manning, Travis Grant, Solomon Austin, Marvin Joseph, Stellon David and goalie Sean Johnson to halt their opponents. An exciting game is anticipated.
The next set of games will be on Friday with more quarterfinal action.
$1M, $500,000, $200,000 and $100,000 are at stake for the top four teams and exciting football is anticipated.
Several sponsors have combined with the Mayor’s Cup Committee to ensure the tournament is a success.
