An exciting opening day of play was recorded when the Clerical and Commercial Workers Union / Birchmore Philadelphia annual Memorial open knock-out dominos competition served off at the entity’s Quamina Street, headquarters on Monday.
A number of Government Ministries including Agriculture, Education and Amerindian Affairs; Trade Unions and some regular club teams are all competing for the attractive cash prizes and trophies that are on offer.
Results of first day’s action:
Guyana National Shipping Corporation amassed 83 game to win their rubber against Guyana Agricultural & General Workers Union ‘A’ team 76 games and Kojac knocked-out with 63 games.
GNSC’s A Lewis marked the maximum 18 games in leading his team to the highest team, score to date. R. Ally of GAWU ‘A’ which had re-entered the competition after losing their first game, was the lone love bird of this match-up.
Also notching up the maximum games was Jackson of RAGE which recorded a match winning 82 games relegating GAWU ‘B’ to second with 71 and In-Time out of the reckoning on 50 games. Lynette Springer of In-Time was in lover’s mode, suffering back to back loves.
Blue Birds racked up 76 as they flew to victory over Regal (70) and GAWU ‘A’ two games back.
Marking 17-games apiece were Satesh Samaroo and Debra Divine of Blue Birds and Rajesh Singh of GAWU ‘A’. Strolling down lovers lane were Jameel Khan (GAWU), Orin Joseph (Blue Birds) and Motilall of Regal.
110 Street with 80 games romped to victory over Guyana Public Service Union (GASU) 70 and Ministry of Agriculture lagging in the cellar position on 70. The love birds were Ministry of Agriculture’s Timothy Inniss and GPSU’s James White.
Guyana Teachers Union and Guyana Oil Company were given easy passage to the second round since the third team that was drawn to compete against them, Printing Industry & Allied Workers Union, never put in an appearance.
The Beacon/Specialist/Oasis match ended in controversy with Beacon walking out of the playing venue. Competition was slated to continue last evening.
