– GTTA welcomes return to community
The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) and the Linden Table Tennis Steering Committee created quite a stir Sunday night at the Constabulary Hall when the two collaborated to host what was dubbed The Linden Table Tennis Open for several categories.
It was the first major competition in the community in the New Millennium and the first since an enthusiastic Steering Committee was installed. The initial attempt that was well-supported meant the progress of the GTTA Decentralisation Programme continued.
The categories contested were an 18 Years and Under Open, 15 Years and Under Open, 13 Years and Under Open, 10 Years and Under Open, Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles and Open Veteran before the Linden Veterans’ competition solely for the ‘Lindeners’.
Trophies and cash incentives were presented to the winners, runner-ups and third place players at the Constabulary Hall following the competition. Director of Sport, Neil Kumar, had travelled to Linden earlier in the day to be part of the official opening of event.
Stephan Barrow copped The Most Improved Player Award while Shanteal Alleyne and Marlon Washington received Fair Play Awards. Raynor ‘Copter’ Anderson and Alleyne received GTTA President Awards for their grassroots effort in resuscitating the sport.
