IMC Chairman Orrin Gordon and Chairman of LUSCSL Valerie Sharpe look on as a student of New Silver City Secondary cuts the ribbon
On Friday, the Linden Utility Services Cooperative Society Limited (LUSCSL) handed over a spanking new bus shed to the Linden municipality. The shed which is located in front of the New Silver City Secondary School, cost some $440,000 according to Chairman of LUSCSL Valerie Adams-Sharpe.
It was the culmination of an initiative which commenced last year, during the 50th anniversary of the coop, when its management sought ways of giving back to the community they serve.
Interim Management Committee Chairman Orrin Gordon applauded the Cooperative for the benevolent gesture, while describing the entity as a beacon in the community.
He exhorted residents to care the facility and to use it only for the purpose for which it is intended.
During the handing over ceremony, Ms Adams-Sharpe pointed out, “This bus shed is a gift from LUSCSL to the Linden community, more particularly to the community of Wismar— because our operations are at Wismar.
“However, we are not going to limit its usage to the people of Wismar alone, but also to Linden as a whole, because we know there are persons on the Mackenzie shore who traffic this part of Town.”
Sharpe further noted that the location for the bus shed was chosen because of the nearby school, and the fact that there was no place for students to shelter, as they await transportation.
She pointed to the timeliness of the intervention considering the current persistent rainy weather, and exhorted students and teachers of the New Silver City School, as well as the community at large to care the bush shed.
While the bus shed was handed over to the linden municipality through its IMC Chairman, LUSCSL will ensure its maintenance, Adams-Sharpe said.
LUSCSL supplies electricity to residents on the Wismar shore. It is reportedly one of the oldest and better functioning Cooperatives in the country.
