Window – Shop and Repair makes $$$ contribution
The Guyana Amateur Body Building & Fitness Federation will bring off their first competition for the year when they host the annual Novice and Intermediate Championships on Sunday at the National Cultural Centre.
First timers and those who have tried before but did not succeed will grace the Culture Centre stage flexing muscles against each other with the intention of gaining the judges nod as the best in the respective categories; 143lbs, 154lbs, 165lbs, 176lbs and over 177lbs. There will also be an Under-21 and Masters category apart from the Men’s and Women’s Fitness and the Ms. Body Fitness competitions.
Athletes who place from 1st to 3rd in the Novice competition will be eligible to collide in the Intermediate championship which would be held immediately after the Novice.
Since the level of interest has been encouraging, the GABBFF decided to extend the close of date for entries to Wednesday March 23 to ensure that no athlete is left out of what is anticipated to be an exciting show on Sunday evening. To date over 20 athletes have entered including two females. The Under-21 and Masters competitions are expected to be very absorbing.
With a modest charge of $1,000 for Sunday’s activity, body building fans and supporters are expected to be out in their numbers to take in the action as it unfolds at Guyana’s Premier Theatrical venue.
Meanwhile, GABBFF President Fiona Harris disclosed that corporate assistance continues to be a challenge despite the federation sending out their calendar of activities and budget in January.
However, Window – Shop and Repair, located at 52 Fifth Street, Alberttown has made a timely contribution to the federation to assist with the purchasing of trophies.
Handing over the cheque to GABBFF President Fiona Harris was Troy Bailey, who placed 3rd at the 2009 Novices on behalf of Owner, Terrence Joseph.
Bailey said they were cognizant of the financial challenges encountered by the federation and they were very happy to assist to ensure that the sport and athletes progress.
Harris expressed gratitude to Joseph and Window – Shop and Repair for partnering with them to ensure the smooth running of Sunday’s competitions.
Harris also disclosed that the plan of the federation is to seek other avenues of assistance including approaching a number of small businesses.
A plea is also being made to members of the public to assist; persons wishing to do so can make contact with Harris on 627 6364 or Treasurer Malcolm Changa on 697 1660.
