Security officials at a city bank spotted a fraudulent scheme and apprehended the conspirators. This happened last week. The story came to light after the suspected conspirators were handed over to law enforcement ranks of the Guyana Police Force.
Kaieteur News understands that the suspects were attempting to change several checks which were stolen from the proprietor of Muneshwer Limited, Amarnaught Muneshwer, during a recent robbery.
On Friday, the three suspects, Orvin Milton, Raschad Adel and Christopher Wayne were escorted by police ranks into the Georgetown Magistrates’ courtroom before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry to answer to charges ranging from receiving stolen cheques to attempting to commit a fraud, to possession of forged cheques.
To the charges they all pleaded not guilty.
Defense counsel, George Thomas entered an appearance for both Adel and Milton, while attorney at-law David James represented Wayne.
The first charge read that between March 5 and March 16 at Georgetown, Milton, Wayne and Adel conspired with person/s unknown and forged a Republic Bank of Guyana Limited cheque purporting to show that same was issued by Amarnaught Muneshwer knowing same to be forged.
Between the same dates mentioned, Adel received from Wayne a Republic Bank of Guyana cheque knowing same to be stolen.
The other charge read that between the same dates, Wayne received for Milton several forged cheques knowing them to be stolen.
Milton was also charged for having in his possession 99 of the said cheques that were forcefully taken from Amarnaught Muneshwer during the robbery.

Wayne gave his address as 3C Calendar Street, Republic Park, East Bank Demerara. He is employed at Republic Bank Guyana Limited as a loan management officer.
Milton, 27, told the court that he resides at WW lot 7 North East La Penitence, Georgetown. He is gainfully employed as a grocery vendor and is a father of two minors.
Adel, 19, said that he inhabits 29 Bella Dam, Klien, Pouderoyen West Bank Demerara. He is also gainfully employed as a customer service representative at Qualfon Guyana Inc.
Counsel George Thomas said in his address to the court that his two clients have no criminal records and should be granted their pre-trial liberty in a reasonable sum.
James then stood and endorsed Thomas’s application.
The lawyer further said that all the accused have unblemished police records and the court should take into consideration that no money was ever obtained from the bank by the three accused.
Magistrate Beharry set bail in the sum of $125,000 for each offence the three accused are charged with.
