The full moon occurring today will be closer to the Earth than it has been in the past 18 years. The moon will look brighter and bigger than normal.
Although some scientists say that this will have no effect and is no cause for alarm, other scientists along with many in the psychic community suggest that a “super moon” (as termed by astrologist, Richard Nolle) coincides with events such as earthquakes, high tides and extreme weather conditions.
The predicted events caused by a super moon can occur at any time surrounding the day of the month that the moon is actually full. Full moons of any calibre seem to sometimes cause havoc, but the recent earthquake and tsunami affecting Japan point to the idea that there is some credence to the prediction of super moon activity.

For many experts, that is a false association, and they say that any kind of cycle connected to natural disasters is just a coincidence, and the moon has no effect on any flood or earthquake going on on the earth.
Past super moons have been connected to the Indonesian earthquake in 2005, and a massive flood in Australia in 1954.
