With the horseracing season well and thoroughly on the way, two of the leading Turf clubs in Guyana will hold back to back horserace meets at their respective tracks during this month.
The Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) at Bush Lot farm Corentyne and the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports Facilities (RCMTC&SF) at Alness also on the Corentyne will have meets on Monday 21 and Sunday 27 March respectively.
KMTC has seven races planned for their meet with their main sponsorship coming from beverage company DDL.
The RCMTC&SF has eight races on their programme with their main sponsorship coming from another beverage giant Banks DIH Limited.
The races on the card for the KMTC race meet are for the B and Lower horses over 7 Furlongs for a first Prize of $500,000 and Trophy, the F and lower 6 furlongs with a $250,000 first prize and trophy, the same for the open event over 7 furlongs. The G & LOWER 7 furlongs contest has a $200,000 purse available, while the H & LOWER 7 furlongs have a $150,000 winning purse. The I3 & LOWER 6 furlongs have $120,000 for the winner, while the final event is for J, K & L over 6 furlongs for a purse of $110,000.
Over at the RCMTC the main event on the days programme is for horses classified C & Lower over 1500m with a first prize of $450,000 and trophy on offer.
The other races are the E & Lower 1400m gallop with $260,000 and trophy at stake. There is the 3yrs old Guyana West Indies Bred 1500m race where $220,000 and trophy is at stake.
G & Lower and the 3year old Guyana bred event are both over 1400m with similar winnings of $200,000 and trophy available. There is the H & Lower 1400m event with $150,000 and trophy while the I2 & Lower goes over a similar distance and has winnings of $120,000 and trophy.
The J, K & L 1400m race will see the winner running off with $100,000 and trophy.
Top individual performers in both events will be presented with trophies and other accolades compliments of The Trophy Stall Bourda Market and other donors. Among some of the main sponsors are Banks DIH, Digicel and DDL among others.
Both races will be run under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority
Entries for the RCMTC&SF meet close tomorrow at the Club Office No. 13 Village Hermitage, Corentyne, Berbice. At 19 Road Corentyne Owners can also have their Horses entered through Mr. Bobby Vaughn (Tel: 624-6788) or Ms. Noresa Saul (Tel: 333-0301 / 333 – 0290) Dr. Dwight Walrond (Tel: 623-0100/220-6557) or Tribuwhan Jagdeo on numbers (669-5593).
Most of the country’s top horses are expected to take part in both meets and two keen and competitive races meet are anticipated.
