Horse race lovers are in for a special holiday treat when the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) stages a Phagwah Race meet at the club’s Bush Lot Farm Corentyne headquarters on Monday March 21 next.
Several races are carded for the day with the feature being the B and Lower clash over a distance of 7 furlongs. The winning jockey carts off $500,000, the runner-up pockets half that amount. The third and fourth place finishers receive $125, 000 and $63,000 respectively.
The day’s action starts with the G and Lower Class over a distance of 7 furlongs. The winning jockey in this race will cart off $200,000 while the second place finisher wins $100,000. There is also the 13 and lower match-up over a distance of 6 furlongs with a top prize of $120,000 at stake.
Meanwhile, turfites have been assured of exciting action especially since jockeys would be competing under improved track conditions. Another plus is that a stable of well-bred animals will be on show.
Further, organisers remind horse owners that the event is being conducted under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) and that all of the rules would be employed. Horse owners are also asked to have their animals examined by the vet by 11:00hrs on race day.
