Marketing Manager of Giftland Office Compton Bobb (R) hands over the cheque to Kenneth Melville in the presence of Karel Mars.
Still trying their utmost to ensure as many athletes as possible travel to compete at the 5th IPF/NAPF Caribbean Powerlifting Championships slated for Georgetown, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (March 23-26), the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPF) received a timely donation from Giftland Office Max.
Marketing Manager Compton Bobb handed over the cheque to athlete Kenneth Melville, junior silver medalist at the 2010 North American Regional championships and CAC bronze medalist. Also attending the presentation was 2010 National Open champion Karel Mars.
Initially, the GAPF had shortlisted eight athletes to attend the championships in the Cayman Islands but lack of financial support has seen the numbers dwindle.
National Coach John Edwards who will also be competing in the Men’s Masters M1 category is one of four athletes which have been confirmed to travel.
The others are Men’s Open Champion – Randolph Morgan, Men’s Junior Champion – Anis Ade Thomas and Woman’s Open Champion – Dawn Barker.
Efforts are still being made to add more athletes to this list since the deadline to pay for the tickets has been extended by a few more days. The cost for each athlete is US$1500,00.
