Former Guyana under-19 captain Troy Cornelius scored a well compiled 106 with 12 fours and a six for Central Sports against Mahendra Nagamootoo’s Moosai Sports, while former Guyana youth batsman Neil Willaims responded with 139 last weekend in the Eastern Credit Union Premier League cricket competition in Trinidad.
At St Mary’s College ground Merry Boys batted first and was bowled out for 63 in 29.3 overs with former West Indies player Dwayne Smith getting 6 for 15 and T&T spinner Sunil Narine 2 for 9.
In reply Queen’s Park made 136 all out in 35.3 overs with Smith getting 70. Merry Boys bating a second time were bowled out for 104. Set 32 for victory Queen’s Park reached 33 without loss to win by ten wickets.
At Honeymoon Park, Moosai Sports batted first and scored 351 for 5 declared in 79 overs with former Guyana under-19 left-hander Neil Williams scoring 139 and Brain Yearwood 105. Guyanese Devon Clements chipped in with 43.
Central Sports in reply reached 375 for 9 in 86 overs with the Essequibian Cornelius, who now resides in Trinidad, leading the fight with his century. He was supported by Valmiki Deonarine 58 and Varendra Maharaj 59.
Bowling for Moosai Sports, Nagamootoo, a former Guyana and West indies leg-spinner, grabbed 2 for 98 as Central Sports won on first innings.
At Syne Village, Clark Road were restricted to 231 all out with another former Guyana and West Indies youth player Homchand Pooran scoring 44. Bowling for Powergen T&T leg-spinner Samuel Badree captured 5 for 77 and Dave Mohammed 4 for 79. In reply Powergen reached 87 for 2 before rain forced a no result. (Sean Devers)
