Dear Editor,
Guyana, like other countries, appoints Ambassadors to promote the interests of the country and its people.
Usually persons chosen to serve in that capacity are presumed to be equipped with the requisite qualities to accomplish the tasks they are expected to undertake. Negotiating skills rank high among those qualities.
In this respect, media reports on the recent happenings involving Mr. Kwame McCoy and Mr. Mark Benschop and concerning the former’s house and the latter’s vehicle may have revealed to many people hitherto unsuspected talents of Mr. McCoy.
On the basis of the reported results of Mr. McCoy’s interaction with the police authorities, Kwame must have deployed considerable negotiating skills as well as persuasive powers in representing his interests.
In the current scheme of things Kwame may have thereby enhanced his eligibility to be a candidate for an Ambassadorial appointment. There are I believe vacancies in Brazil and the United Nations. Whither goes the real McCoy? In the case of Brazil however, the agreement of that country is a necessary requirement.
