Social Sciences (SS) turned in sterling performance to defeat Agriculture faculty 48-40 when the curtains went up on the University of Guyana Inter-Faculty basketball tournament at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) yesterday afternoon.
Kirk Moses top scored for the winning team with 12 points that included two three pointers while John Fraser contributed with 8 assists.
In a game characterized by blatant blunders, Social Sciences demonstrated commendable rebounding tactics which in the end served as the decisive factor. However, despite his team’s loss, Ryan Dey topped the overall scoring averages with a game high 23 points along with 12 rebounds and 4 offensive rebounds.
Meanwhile, Natural Science (NS) was gifted a walk over by a combined team consisting of School of Earth and Environment Studies/School of Education and Humanities (SEESSEH) after the latter team failed to take to the courts.
The action continues this afternoon with two other exciting games. In the first, starting at 12:00hrs, University of Guyana Berbice Campus (UGBC) will oppose Staff while Technology and Health Sciences play in the second game from 13:00hrs.
Tomorrow’s games will see UGBC coming up against Health Sciences starting at 12:00hrs, while Technology and Staff battle from 13:00hrs. On Thursday, Natural Sciences will play Social Sciences while in the second game that day, Agriculture opposes SEESSEH.
Friday’s matches will see Technology opposing UGBC, while in the second game Staff will play Health Sciences (HS).
Thereafter, the other matches would be decided based on the respective winners. The tournament ends on Sunday 24 next with the third place playoffs and the finals. Natural Sciences are the defending champions after defeating Technology in last year’s finals. Seivewright Benjamin is the coordinator.
